I come to this forum sometimes when my past comes up. (A little background, my ex-husband was arrested just over 5 years ago.)

The first time I visited this site was after the incident, then most nights, then some nights, then once a week, once a month...now every time something comes up from my past. It's my comfort blanket.

When everything happened I had to give up my dogs. For most people that wouldn't seem much, but they were my kids. I never wanted children. So my dogs, they were everything. And I had to give them up.

I have now found a new life and a chance to have a new resuce dog. And I find myself being scared of what could happen.

I hav developed skills to counter this fear, but sometimes I need to write something down.

For those in the early days, things do get better.

I am so please you have found a new life and coping skills. This forum is truly amazing.
I got a puppy 6 months after the knock, i was not sure if that was the right decision. But the pup has given me a purpose and she is a new beginning. I do have other dogs as well. I have children but they are all grown up. So i fully undertsnad your furbabies were your children and cannot imagine your heartache of leaving them. I hope your new furbaby will heal the hurt a little, i know not all, but soak up their love for you and cherish your new furbaby.

We have a new family fur baby and I absolutely love him - I dog sit. He completely takes my mind off everything and gets me outside - roll on summer. He's a faithful friend providing lots of loving, comforting snuggles, after a long walk.

i was never a 'dog person' but changed my mind 100%.

hubby not so keen, but I would definately have one of my own if given the choice ....
