Hi everyone,

Apologies if this has been asked before, however I had a question regarding standard DBS/enchanced DBS checks and what would be shown on them.

As a background, I live with my person, we are related and share the same last name, however he is not my partner. We had the knock last year and we are still very much at the limbo stage in this journey, awaiting devices to be checked etc.

I am currently enrolling in a volunteering opportunity which is requiring me to undergo a DBS check as it will be me working with adolescents.

My question is will my persons investigation be shown on my DBS check? If not on a standard, what about on an enhanced?

Thanks!

From my experience yes. I didn't live with my person at the time but the police determined that he could gain access to the children I work with via me. On my DBS there was a good paragraph or so detailing the reason he was arrested. Which was hugely frustrating to me as I haven't done anything but I could understand how police could view it necessary to give my employer the information. Thankfully I was applying to work at my son's school so the head teacher already knew what was going on. I'd say disclose it to the manager or relevant person. I know it's extremely uncomfortable and horrible but like you said it's nothing to do with you, just say someone that lives at the same address has been arrested for viewing indecent images and reassure them that you do not condon it and take it very seriously and that in no way would it every impact your work, that you understand safeguarding. xx

Standard should have nothing as that is just about you.

I have nothing on my enhanced but it took 5 months to get to that point.

It was flagged by the address and an arrest being made at the address. The local DBS people talked to the OIC and then I was contacted to put my side forward. Took about 3 months to get to this point.

I got advice from unlock and put together a long email about why this role has nothing to do with my OH and why he is not involved in my personal business outside of the house in a voluntary role (and that it was on online offence only). Another 2 months later and I got an email that my DBS was clear, still waiting for the physical DBS.

Luckily no one noticed that my DBS tool ages to come through.

Scaredmumof3.

The same happened to me time scale wise. Took around 5 months for it to finally arrive. I wanted to fight having it on my DBS but honestly couldn't be bothered, I just wanted to start my new job, my person has his court date in 2 days, once that's over and I don't have to think about it anymore I will fight it.

But original poster you should definitely consider than longer wait time as your employer will likely wonder what the delay is. xx

Does anyone work in healthcare and knows how it works if partner's conviction on enhanced DBS? Are you still able to work?

My understanding is it should not show if someone hasn't yet been sentenced. But it flag for those at the same address.

As recommended best to disclose when working with children as the employer.
