I wondered how common is it for people to not be allowed Internet access post conviction?
He has it as a licence condition. It's making life difficult. The information I've seen on here, read on the Internet and I've had from talking to Unlock that this is a bit over zealous and not proportionate.

The appeal court decided back in 2011 that a total ban on internet use was disproportionate, because modern life relies on it so heavily.
Does he have an SHPO and what does that say about the internet? The court also said that SHPOs should not duplicate licence conditions and vice versa.

I thought this was the case too. It's not on his SHPO but is on his licence.

I do understand this concern, I do trust he'd not do anything worthy of being worried about but I can see how it could have the potential to cause problems. He'd make sure he had minimal apps on the phone - Banking, reward cards, shopping apps etc. So much is online now it makes it extremely difficult (and costly) to carry out normal life.
I just wondered if this was put on many people's license conditions, as I haven't seen it mentioned much

My son has bought a cheap 'dumb' phone & yes it has been frustrating to not be able to access online admin stuff but it has put our minds at ease. He wanted to get a laptop with security programmes added but was advised against it by police & probation.
We have all become so reliant on internet access that it's hard to do things the more traditional way of phonecalls & snail mail.
This doesn't really help you,but I do sympathise.

I can understand wanting to be cautious. It's very practical reasons he needs Internet, not social. We live in the middle of nowhere so we can't just nip to the banks, or the shops, he has responsibilities and is effectively going to be self employed and needs Internet to be able to exist in society.
Has anyone actually had this as a probation license condition?

Hi SAL
Sorry to jump on with no advice but have been wondering how you are both doing x
I remember your 1st post, sentancing, and now a new chapter, how are the furbabys? Are you now able to be together? Or is he still at the AP?x

Thanks Upset. I often think of you and the others that were there on thr beginning of this journey and who sadly are still amist the middle of it.
He is finally home from the AP. For him it offered no value, in fact hindered his adjustment. Thankfully the fur babies were taken care of for the extra couple of months and today we took them for a long walk, did some DIY together, now he's downstairs cooking dinner and I'm soaking in the bath. So much is different, but so much is still the same. Lots of hurdles to over come but feeling that grateful to be in the position we are.
