Hello again folks.

4.5 years on and we are finally getting to live together again in a new home miles away. This is so big, it's been a long time coming. Now here is my problem, we live in a world of social media, Google and serious gossips. If you type in my husbands name he is the first result that comes up, it's not a common name. Has anyone been here? We are in Scotland so can change his name without deed poll but it's a hard decision.

Police did recommend it but arent much help. They said just to use his middle name or my maiden name. My maiden name is a no go as it is completely obscure. Has anyone been through this? The panic attacks are setting in, I have had so much harassment I dont think I could do it all again. I know not everyone googles everyone but it just takes that one person and it spreads like wildfire.

Hi SallyBlue, so pleased for you and although I don't have an answer to your question, just wanted to wish you and your family all the best with your new start.

Sending love.

Ps what about your husbands mothers maiden name?

Hi Sallyblue

So happy for you all but why is it never bloody simple!!

I have to say I've never googled anyone I know, neighbours etc but of course if you go through this experience we do get paranoid!

If it's make you feel more settled and happier about not being found again then change it but try and keep it close to what you have as O&U suggested, that would probably be easier for the children

Good luck lovely lady, you all deserve this and I hope it's the start of a wonderful Life for you all

Much love xx

We were hoping maybe to just change the husbands first name as not to confuse the kids. His mothers maiden name is always a possibility. He did think of dropping his first name and taking his middle name but I'm sure most of you know that middle names are normally not the best! He hates his as a first name but it is an option.

SallyBlue you and your husband will work it out. I hope this is the start of a new happy chapter in your lives. Well done for hanging in there and making it to the other side. Still some challenges ahead I'm sure, but I appreciate your advice and support as someone who has been through it all. Xxx

Hi sallyblue it's nice to hear some good news. I'm glad for you. I hope you manage to sort names. It is a worry about google. Does everyone's conviction get noted on there or is it those who are in papers etc? I am so lucky that my husbands wasnt reported in paper however I am paranoid it will be on internet x

Hi

we have been through the name change process. It’s very simple fast and easy. Google change my name by deed poll and the company will come up. It was a 30.00 fee and a bit extra if you want an extra document for the bank etc. We chose the extra letter just in case one went lost with dvla so that we always had one in the house. It was honestly very easy .

After my divorce about 20 years ago I just typed myself out a deed and got it witnessed. I got the wording off google. You can then just use that to change your name without going through deed poll. Also I would avoid connections such as mother's maiden name as these are easily found online through family history sites. If someone had a suspicion for example they could look things up. I would reinvent my name completely.
