Hi all,

I hope you are all doing ok and have something nice planned for the weekend.

I'm still struggling to navigate through all of this, still crying daily, and more questions seem to come up everyday. Do the questions ever end?

I met with the social worker the other day (we have 2 children) and I asked how long this process would take (after reading lots of others situation on here - some taking 2-3 years) and she said something about the severity of the situation can determine the speed of it. Does anyone have any idea on this? How long has it take for you? What was the outcome? (I'm scared to death he will go to prison)

My partner had a lot of images (varying ages / all categories) and she seemed to imply it wouldn't be a long process due to this - as it's not looking great.

Thanks as always for any information / advice. Take care.

My partner was possession of iioc large number but mainly cat c. He's not had sentencing yet, it keeps getting relisted. His knock was 3 years and one month ago. I wouldn't take anything that SS say as being correct. Firstly the police do not release details of the case, SS don't know full evidence disclosure until charges are brought and you can see them too!. My SW did the same, told me that my partner had distributed iioc which was a load of rubbish as I asked the oic and he told me nothing was declared to our SW at the time and he hadn't distributed anything . My kids were 18 and 15 nearly 16 so I didn't really have SS involvement apart from one chat with my 15 year old and then it was closed

Hi

I am so sorry you're in this position. It's not a nice place to be, but remember this is just a temporary situation and things will get better.

Our process took 12 months (from the knock to sentencing). They found just over a 100 images on my partners phone. Images across all 3 categories as well as varying ages.

He got 300h of unpaid work, 12 months on the register + 12 months supervision order.

I know your social worker is probably only trying to help, but she cannot predict the outcome and length of the process. It really is unpredictable and there is no way of knowing what's going to happen. I know this isn't helpful, but honesty is the best policy.

Severity of the offence is a one thing, but there is so many other factors that come into play: remorse, professional help (therapy), general rehabilitation, cooperation with the police etc.

I hope everything works out well for you, please drop me a message if you need a chat! X

I think it will also depend on what he does about it.....

My OH was straight into therapy with StopSo and SAA 12 step programme.... end result is that after 6 months he is on RUI.

He has no idea how many images he has and they are def A to C. Last update was that they had found 60 so far and not even half way through the search.

I think they think it is bad but not that bad, he is an addict who has gone too far. This has given him the kick he needed to sort all his life issues out, from childhood to now.

The reality is that now he is RUI, this is likely to go on for longer as other people jump ahead of him in the device searching queue.

I think the SW is trying to scare you a little as they can be known to do this as part of their tactics..... to distance you from him if you are undecided if you are going to stay or not. As others have said they have no way of actually knowing, only the police do.

The best thing we were ever told by the solicitor was that a sw shouldn't give legal advice. I was told all sorts of things at the beginning by a SW who was horrendous. We were lucky that she got moved and had an amazing one for the next 2 years. The best advice I can give is just to take each day one step at a time.

11 months from arrest to custodial sentence. This seems quite quick going by some of the accounts on the forum.
