My husband is currently in open conditions after being moved from a Cat C, he is due for release very soon. He's been notified today by Probation that he will have to go to AP upon release. This makes no sense whatsoever when he has a supportive family and home waiting for him. I'm telling myself that this is just another temporary hurdle we will face but it's hurting my heart a little if I'm honest.
Prison Reform Trust state many reasons for AP not being necessary or advised but Probation seem to go against these. Can anyone give me their experiences of challenging their decision, or is it a waste of energy. x

We were in the same situation. It made no sense and hindered his reintegration and almost put a lot of what we'd both individually invested (emotionally, financially and practically) at risk. In the limited time he had with probation he did challenge it, I sent him information from the Prison Reform Trust, but the blanket answer was 'This is what we do here', no justification, no expectations on what he or the support services should do why he was there. 6 weeks checking in every 3 hours making it very difficult (along with not being allowed Internet access) to do all the life admin that is very much needed upon release. In the end we didn't fight it because we worked out a way we could get through those 6 weeks but would really struggle there after.
For some positives. The AP wasn't horrendous. The staff were in the main friendly and welcoming. I'm not sure if it was related to the AP or juts the release procedure but he has had some helpful meetings re jobs, starting his own business and training funding.

Hey, that's reassuring SAL, am I right in thinking most (if not all) sex offenders have to spend a period in AP. It sounds just the kind of vital support my son will need when released.
just out of curiousity has anyone been through the parole procedure?
