Stepson of 17 has been referred to YOT about iloc he did when 15.Im really struggling since his arrest last April. He has closed himself away for so long & just feel so guilty about how he has not been protected by his Dad,Mum or me????I know it's not our fault but I know he's on the spectrum & has needed so much more from his parents because he's struggled with dyspraxia aswell. He is doing A levels but has barely any friends, doesn't speak much with my children who are 24 & 21.Just feeling so broken, our family's struggling like many others and I need to use my support for my mental health before everything comes crashing down.

Sorry to rant on but needing to at the mo.Thanks x

Hi Beyonce - just a supportive hug from me and as there are several mums on here with sons on the spectrum I'm sure someone will reply soon with some personal perspective and help. Have you tried to find some threads via the search button on here? There's been quite a few over the year I've been on the forum xx

Hi Beyonce,

Our person is on the spectrum too and we got him to engage in counselling just after the arrest. a year later I have seen him go from what you are describing to a more confident young man. We also suggested and helped him get a part-time job alongside uni and this has helped too. Sending you a huge hug as it's so hard when they're young and on the spectrum. Happy to chat if you need anything else.

Take them conversations and build on them. With ASC, you have to build on there interestes and don't be disheartened if they don't want to talk then, just try another time.

you care and that's the main thing

We spoke about Psychology which I did as a degree & he's doing at A level. It's so sad he's closed himself from my 2 children who he used to love spending time with before he hit puberty at primary school. It's like he doesn't know how to communicate anymore????He is an only child at his Mums so always around adults.

Really hoping his Mum & Dad finally realise he needs lots of help beyond their love. There is so much support he could have
