Hostel on release

Why do the people who do these crimes and receive custodial have to go to hostels on release and is it everyone who has to?
There are no children who my person would come into contact with so if he received a custodial I'm sure on release he'd benefit massively from the love and support in his own home and struggle with having further time away and being made to go to a hostel. I know someone who was in prison for 4 years (different crime) and on release went straight back home . Just seems so unfair and just another way of hurting our persons when all they really need is love and support to get through this period of time xxx

My husband is also having to go to AP on release and I agree it seems absolutely ridiculous. They seem to go against the guidance of use of AP ( see Prison Reform Trust). We have questioned this and referred to the guidance particularly given that he is now in Cat D. We've been told that this is quite normal and it provides a half way point between prison and home. I don't understand the reasoning at all but there is little that can be done to change their decision. I know that not all AP are for those convicted of sex offences so evidently those convicted of other crimes do go to them too.
