I saw someone on here mention that they took a prison bag to court.

What do you put in a prison bag ?? I have no idea but because this is a possibility, I should probably consider this.

Many thanks x

Hi Dad, my son took a prison bag to court, we called it his just in case bag. The only things I would add to the list edel has sent you is medication and a list of phone numbers. We made sure my son had a months worth of prescribed medication in his bag in case it took a while to get it sorted out.
How is your son doing?

Hi ocean,

Does he actually need to physically take the bag in with him ??

Or do we get a chance to hand it over to him after sentencing??

He's OK at the moment. It seems there are a few things I need to point out and discuss with him before hand, that he's probably not going to like

It's my understanding that no medication can be taken into prison. Just take a list of what he needs and the prison pharmacy should supply it.

At the point of sentencing, the person is taken down literally, down the stairs from the dock and into the cells under the court. No opportunity to say goodbye, or speak to family. So he will take the bag into the dock with him. Court staff are all very helpful and will advise on the procedure.

Just want an end to it

My Son took a bag, solicitor and barister said it shows respect to the judge that you take the offence seriously. Worst thing as a mother I have ever had to do. I had the bag with me, to be honest that was just because when we went into court I forgot that I was carrying it. The judge did clock that I had it though.

Thankyou all for your replies.

Obviously I've never dealt with anything like this before, so didn't have a clue.

We were told t-shirts, trackies, flipflops for the shower, two copies of phone numbers in case one is lost, £200 in cash because it can take a while for a prison account to be set up. As the others have said, it shows the judge that he understands the severity of the situation. However, nothing prepares you as a parent to help your son pack a prison bag. I hope you're doing OK.

One thing we regretted was not sorting out my sons finances even though we were told he'd definitely get a custodial. Mainly his phone contract and putting power of attorney in place so we could look after his money.

i was left with sorting it out when he was in prison, incl termination of his job and it was very stressful.

Hi everyone,

This is all so sad. You are all very strong, wonderful people. The thoughts of having to face that terrifies me beyond belief.

Still waiting for any feedback 2.5 years after 'The Knock'.

Hi,

Your not alone, its terrifies me too. We are not there yet but its getting closer everyday. The whole court thing is terrifying, I'm not sure how I'm going to deal with it, when it comes next month.

Take care x

Dad

How are you and your son?

In addition to all the advice of a prison bag (every thing x you wont need it)

Get your son to write all his passwords to any accounts he has on line like phone, bank details also to leave his phone with you when he goes to court x

Thankyou all for your replies, I have noted it all.

This is getting scary now, court date has been put back a month or so, which drags it out a little but I don't want to go at all.

My son is ok when we don't have to talk about it, although he said just the other day, he hasn't decided if he wants to live through this. Which was heartbreaking !!

The closer it gets the more nervous I get. I don't want to see him suffer and definitely not go to prison.

I'm not great at expressing my feelings but I do really really want to thank you all for your help and advice x

Hi

this is my first post on the forum although I've been following since 21st December last year when my family's world was blown apart by "the knock". I also have been wanting to know about the prison bag but just haven't been able to get it done as it's just so hard to have to think about but practically it's something I need to know. I'm so thankful to have this forum and all the lovely people who are here to give support to everyone going through this nightmare. Love to everyone x

Stop so has some really good resources around prison time and what time expect I was able to show my child this as they were worried about their father there was someone's recall of their first few days within the prison system
