Has anyone gone straight to court from arrest for images and communication?

Has anyone been straight to court from second arrest? It's been four years and no information and now suddenly he's locked up awaiting court today. Is this normal? They won't even let me talk to him. I'm in full panic
It would be very unlikely to go straight to a trial, because the defence have to be given time to prepare for that, so it's most likely for a bail hearing.
'If the custody officer decides to refuse bail, the defendant must be taken in front of the magistrates’ court at the first possible opportunity.'
So the police are opposing bail, and the court has to decide whether to remand him or not.

Thank you so much, I'm in such a panic
