My oh has no shpo he went for basic factory work no question about unspent conviction, health safety wise there can't be any under 18 on premises so we felt this was best option

Hi there
My person is still on pre-charge bail. Six months since arrest. He hasn't applied for anything since he lost his job four months ago. I'm at a loss with him now. He keeps looking but I think he's anxious about people recognising him. It's a tricky one to navigate x

My husband has no SHPO but Mosovo and probation still don't want him working in customer facing roles or any role where he could be with under 18s and this is really common
He was unemployed for around 3 weeks, applied for everything possible on indeed, made sure he sent a personal message to each employer and got a job on the 4th interview at a smaller warehouse packing food products where they didn't ask about unspent convictions
Most bigger employers and all agencies will ask and will then ghost you, in our experience.
Have a disclosure letter prepared so there's no awkward conversations

Intermoil, if your OH has no SHPO then why has he not got a spent conviction? Was told by Unlock that the once the SHPo is gone then the conviction was spent. The SOR does not make a conviction unspent. Was told this as was advised can try and get the shpo reduced to 5 years instead of the ten, and then the conviction will be spent.
Just a thought.

Hiya all.
Yes he will definitely be taking a disclosure letter with him so he doesn't have to answer any awkward questions.

Not a reply to the original post but my OH also does not have a SHPO. His conviction is unspent. I and intumoil are in scotland so it may be different here.
My son is desperate for a job and applies for everything he can apply for. He's had a couple of interviews and 1 job which was terminated after 2 days when someone informed them of his conviction. He's now joined an agency and is hoping that they may able to find him something.
The conviction being spent depends on various factors. My husband got a 3 year community order so it will be spent at the end of that because there'd no SHPO - if there had been a SHPO it would be spent at the end of the SHPO. You are right that the SOR is not relevant regarding whether the conviction is spent or not
