I received "the knock" on August 16th 2022. It was for my ex-partner, whom I had lived with for three years and thought was the love of my life. Sometimes, I feel like a lifetime has passed, but other times, it feels like it was just yesterday. It is like a sickness returning when my immune system weakens. When I'm exhausted, feel stressed, get a cold, or when somebody upsets me, all the memories of that day and all the feelings come back and stay with me for weeks and months. Recently, in my workplace, we were asked to do the DBS check as we work with some minors. A few weeks later, one of my colleagues was suspended pending an investigation. While I realised it was probably unrelated, my thoughts immediately turned to the "knock".

I wish there were a physical support group (of women; since that day, I feel very uncomfortable with men) that experienced the knock, where to share feelings and be supported when the feeling comes back, and where not to feel alone.

Thanks,

Sabrina.

Talking Forward do online and face to face peer group sessions. I go to the online ones due to where I live. Everyone is in the same position and it is a safe place to talk.

Hi Sara, I too searched for face to face support but was unable to find something specifically related to online sexual offending. What I've done instead is identified some areas of my mental well-being that needed addressing and am focusing on improving that rather than focusing on the cause. To help me with this I have just registered with an organisation where I live that offers a range of free workshops to help with mental health wellbeing, for example, dealing with anxiety, your inner critic, improving confidence and self esteem etc. once registered we also have access to weekly social events and mental well being coaches as well as all the workshops.
I'm not sure if this would work for you but I thought it was worth suggesting,
