Morning my x was given a 1 year sentence 2 years ago for IIM's and served 6 months he was put on the SHR & SOR for 10 years, Roll forward to now my son is 16 in May and he has only had contact with his dad via text n email and that's it until now and he's just told me his dad has booked tickets for them to go and see a band for his 16th his dad hasn't consulted me at all as we don't speak.
1. Is he allowed todo this or has my son got to be 18
2 who do I contact to find out if this is allowed as not had any contact from SS since he was arrested, his whole case was put under media block, and I was told it was on a need to know basis and as he didn't life with us I didn't need to know I only knew about his conviction through the court papers. The police, PS and SS Have all washed there hands

Hi,
Did ss allow text and email contact only or give no guidance at all on how to proceed?
Looking at it from a safeguarding perspective at 15/16 your son is considered old enough to know about his dads crimes and then make his own decisions around contact. This is assuming that your son has no issues that impact his ability to understand and make decisions.
You could contact ss. Your ex will still have an offender manager and monitoring so ss will be able to contact them to assess the risk level etc. His communication with your son will have been monitored by his offender manager when they do their device checks so they will know that he still has contact with your son.
How do you want things to progress? What do you feel is in your sons best interest? What does your son think about spending time with his dad? xxx

I think it depends on the conditions of his SHPO. Definitely contact social services and also his VISOR contact at the police. My ex is only allowed to contact under 18s with the approval of social services. So they had the final sign off on contact with my son, who is 13. It took a while but because the VISOR officer and probation viewed him as low risk he is now allowed unsupervised contact. Its odd social services havent kept in touch
