OH arrested and RUI in Feb 2022, we just had a call from OIC that everything's been sent to CPS. What does this mean? How long until charges come though roughly and how long until he goes to court? It's been so long since the arrest and he has come so far, we knew this day was coming.....

Even though we know these things are coming it's still so triggering when it happens but hang on in there as sadly you could still be in for quite a wait.

The CPS uses the evidence collected by the police to decide whether they think a crime has been committed. They also determine the charges and will then present the case at court. I don't think there is any set time of how long it takes between the evidence going to CPS and charges being issued. In my sons situation the case went back and forth between the police and the CPS several times and took many months before charges were finally given.

My son was given his court date at the same time as the charges, the magistrates court date was about 4 weeks after charges and crown court about 4 weeks after that. In total the case took 22 months from arrest to sentencing.

I can still recall how triggering and unsettling this period is. It's surreal to be going about day to day life for so long carrying this awful burden. Every time my husbands phone rang my heart would skip a beat. Try to take it a day at a time and I know that's hard to do. You have no control over the next phase, the timeframe or the outcome but you will get through it x

I feel like we have come so far and just started to move on a bit and just forgot about this stage coming up. We are on holiday next week for 2 weeks, will something happen during that time or does that seem too soon?

For my OH, there was around a 4 month wait from everything going to CPS and charges. This was unusually long, he had been told to expect 6 weeks or so.

When charges arrive you will be given a court date for a plea hearing. This will be about a month or so later.

My thoughts are with you; this is such a nerve jangling time in the whole process

I am totally with you 'How Long', we are similar timescales, knock Feb 22, nothing until OIC said the devices are back June 23, then it took until March 24 to have interview, and now OICs boss needs to write report and send everything off to CPS. We have been warned it could be at least 6 months before we hear anything. So my advice would be to try and completely switch off from it, enjoy your holiday and try not to think about it. Easier said than done I know but at least you can rest assured nothing will happen in the next two weeks!!!! Enjoy!
I simply cannot believe how long it's taking, how torturous it is for the innocent families, and how f^
