Student Tenancy agreement
Notifications OFF
Hi there I wonder if anyone has any advice for me please. My son is at Uni and signed a new tenancy agreement for next year's accomodation whilst he was still on bail and not charged. He has now been charged and is due in court in a couple of weeks. We are hoping for a suspended sentence.
The tenancy agreement states that "The contract-holder agrees to notify the principal contact of any convictions during the term of this contract so that the landlord can appropriately notify the insurance company."
NACRO have advised that we do need to tell the estate agent the nature of the offence and this has sent me and my son into a tailspin for obvious reasons.
has anyone had any experience of this? So far no-one knows what has happened and I am worried that they will cancel the tenancy - his flatmate has no idea either - or that they will spread the word etc.
NACRO also said that we might offer to pay towards the increase in the insurance premium. Has anyone got any thoughts/ezxperience of this?
Also I wonder exactly how much we need to say to the agent in terms of the conviction etc.
As you can see I am panicking!
Thank you in advance for any advice.

I would suggest you ring the LFF helpline. They may have more up to date information & advise you on disclosure.
A really tricky one, I'm not sure of your best course of action. Sending good luck to you that you can get a resolution
Thank you both. I will call the helpline.
tbh my son is a high suicide risk and it is about people finding out so we have decided not to say anything - my husband and i can't take the risk he will take his life.
dark days indeed
