This is probably better suited under the legal section but I appreciate not everyone reads there. I know from my time on here that there have been a couple of cases where offences have sadly involved their own children or step-children and due to wanting to protect the children, the question has been raised about anonymity of the case being published in order to prevent the wider public being aware of what the victim was subjected to.

I'm currently working on an academic paper at the moment, reviewing cases and it is possible that, should anonymity be required for victims, that this anonymity can also pass to the offender to prevent the victims from being identified. It comes under the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 1992. I can't remember which lovely lady it was asking about this but hopefully she sees it. I'm sure that in the unfortunate event anyone joins us under these circumstances, that their legal support will make them aware of this if it is appropriate but as we know, advice in these situations can sometimes be either non-existant or incorrect and we have to lead with suggestions or fight for things.

When it's reported in the media they state 'identifiable victims'. Obviously no names.

we were told because of ours being a family 'sensitive' case it wouldn't be in the media.

A police straight lie, quite 'insensitive', I'm afraid. We had the full media circus :-(
