So my OH is being investigated for snapchatting a 16 year old. He has been accused of sending pics and one of the pics on the screenshots was a generic pic of him which the police identified by linking it to government records.

Apparently the conversation was reported from screenshots on Twitter and not the 16 year olds device or anything like that and the Snapchat username was investigated where the account showed to link IP addresses to our address and a random other address in another town.

My OH has no idea of this Snapchat conversation or account and reassured me it's not him, and we don't understand that if this is just from screenshots on Twitter and nothing is found on my OHs devices, surely there's not much to go on?

It's just so bizarre how this has all come from screenshots on Twitter, I don't understand it! My worry is that the police told us device checks are 2 months as we are classed as priority but from all the accounts on here it seems we will be looking at many months or years! In the meantime my OH isn't allowed to live here with me and kids which is heartbreaking and at the end of all this if there is nothing on his devices (apparently they are looking for a Snapchat conversation and indecent images), will all this time just be written off? Costs of accommodation, the turmoil? Just gone? It's awful.

I just wanted to see what people think of this weird case, I just can't get my head around it ???? . If my OH is right and there's nothing on his devices, is that it, over? Or is there more stuff they will need to do? I just want this over.

I'm sorry you find yourself here.

i have nothing particularly useful to tell you but i wanted to show you some support.

You are probably right about not being too optimistic regarding timeframes.

if it does turn to NFA, then that's it. I don't think there's anyway of gaining compensation for all the costs and distress.

There are a few people on here where this has been their outcome and I'm sure they'll be able to tell you more

hugs and solidarity to you.

I can't offer any advise. Another forum user was in a similar situation, where her partner was being investigated based on some tenuous social media links and information. The username is BaffledB, you might be able to see some of her post for more information.

So someone could hack your account and get you in trouble using a photo. I mean people do it to catfish so it's definitely a possibility. It's very scary if that's the case.

Yes it's so strange. Id just love to know that if the devices come back clear and they only have twitter screen shots and IP info, what else they will/can do? My OH said the OIC asked him about an email address linked to the Snapchat account in question, my OH said it's not his email address. Will they have to look into the email account in question too? Will that prolong things?

The whole thing's so weird.
