Digital Forensics

Hi
They will look at everything.
They will look at everything.
Hi, pretty sure they look at everything but it'll probably be done by a separate company and they know exactly what to look for etc. it's not a case of someone sitting there going through every single ounce of data. But, if they think there are offences on those two devices, they will find it. X
Does any one have more info about this.. We were told devices would be subject to triage.. does this mean scanned for images on the CAID data base..?
We have heard nothing except the devices have been outsourced...

Our experience so far has been that OH phone was sent to digital forensics back in September 2023 to download data stored on the device, the OIC messaged last week to say she has finally received the device back along with the forensic report and that she now needs to go through all the information in the report before deciding next steps.
They go through everything!! They can even contact Snapchat for a full report on who else is on their account.

To the best of my knowledge it's a software programme that produces the forensic report. There is a database of known images that it will search for, it can also pick up keywords from messages and browsing history. It's not a person sitting and going through the devices as that would be far too time consuming.
The report provides data for anything suspicious that it flags, these are then reviewed by an actual person.
In terms of your partners case, as it's a child rather than a decoy they will probably have her phone too to analyse that. If nothing is found on any device then it's likely to be no further action. The investigations can take a long time and you could drive yourself crazy thinking of all the possible outcomes. It's really hard but if you can focus on living in the moment then you may find that the anxiety calms down xxx

Hi, my son's offence was communication via Snapchat, his work phone was checked and given back immediately, his computer was checked and returned within a few weeks and his personal phone, the phone he told the police he had used to communicate with the underaged person was checked and returned several months later. None of them contained evidence, so he was convicted on the underaged persons statement, her Mums statement (which was exaggerated and didn't match his or the young persons statement), his IP address and his admission when first arrested.
I'm not sure if they looked for anything else illegal on there but if they did the couldn't have found anything as they returned all devices.
It's such an anxious time for you both but I can promise you that whatever the outcome holds, life will eventually feel easier.

They will flag up anything illegal - although they are looking for evidence of this particular chat, they will chat any other illegal communication eg if he's spoken to other minors. With images, although they are looking for IIOC, if they find extreme porn (eg bestiality) this will be flagged too.
A lot of times someone gets arrested for one thing - for example communication - and then evidence of other things are found - for example images- leading to a second interview.
Are you worried something related to a particular crime is found?
