Son to be charged with IIOC

Hi there , after 15 months of investigation my 19yr old autistic son is to be charged with making IIOC . I'm absolutely heartbroken for him , he was just 18 and just left school when this event happened , he knows he was stupid and has regretted it ever since . During these 15 months he has held down a full time job which has really helped him with his social interaction deficits and he loves his job . He is ( as am i) worried that he will lose his job and that his life will be over , especially if the press print anything about him .I know that he has done something wrong but he really is a good and sensitive lad . Has anyone else been in a similar situation and got through it with a reasonably positive outcome?
I'm so sorry to hear this and appreciate how dreadful you are feeling at the moment. There are some mums of autistic boys or school age boys who post on here so I hope one of them sees your post and replies with more support/advise than I can offer although I'm a mum too but mine is much older. However acknowledging that once a mum, always a mum I just wanted to send a hug for solidarity and hopefully a bit of comfort knowing you're not alone in all this xx
Rainyday52 , thank you for your reply . I just want to make it better for him but I can't and as a mum that's so tough . Weve been told that it's likely that he will get a community order but you just don't know do you and the more I Google the worse it all seems .
Bobbie, search 'Neurodivergent' in the search bar. LFF posted a response February 16th to myself and another forum user which details support available for people with Neurodivergence. It may be beneficial x
Bobbie, PM me I've been in exactly your position.
Hi, my person is autistic and we're trying to help him. Is this classed as a mitigating factor when they are at court?
It's not a specific mitigating factor for sentencing, but it would come under mental health conditions, which are taken into account.
Hi
Bobbie

His case is attempted sexcuall communication with decoys vagilantes

Hi,
I do believe mental health issues play a massive part in crime and they should be taken into account and more education should certainly be given to all legal bodies regarding mental health and such like.
I would bet a lot of legal people don't understand or even consider the mental health crisis at the moment and many are just looking to add figures to yearly results and the prison population.
So very sad this current world we live in when people with problems are vindicated and kicked in the gutter because people don't want to take time out and deal with the root causes. These are vulnerable, and mostly petrified men but the stigma remains with them for life. General public are sheep following sheep in their perception and hostility comes to mind. My person is the kindest, most open and warm person but no one knows his story and no one cares but we know his story and that's what matters.
P.s sorry for spouting
Xx

Just want an end to it - I've PMd you x
Have a look at the bench book, this will give you guide lines. ASC is a a neurological condition that can come with mental health conditions, so don't just look at the mental health aspect as you need to look at the neurological part. This is really important as MH can fluctuate but being Neurodivergent (ND) doesn't, ND people will always be ND, They may fluctuate with coping skills, coaching and life experiences, but will always be ND.
Neurodivergents have 30% lower executive function then neurotypical people, which plays a huge part. There is also so much more, like lack of social and emotional skills that can lead them into the online world and feel safer to build relationships this way instead of face 2 face. Also remember for the young ones, we told them to turn their whole life around a few years ago and live online through covid. This then became more then nateral. I could literally write a book on what I googled and researched before going to court.
I would look at work by
Prof Clare Alley - She is amazing in this area
Autisum spectrum, sexuality and the law by Nick Dubin. I read this book in 2 days
if you google NOTA.co.uk Clare does some work that includes his case in it, intresting work
Raising children network, although in Austraila have a great bit of work on it too.
If your people haven't done the LFF course, I really recommend it.
Bobbie, Sorry I've just answered now.
