Hi All,

I hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine. There seems to be such a range in waiting time from the knock to court. We're at 10 months since the knock and I'm starting to get very nervous. He is the main earner so from a financial point of view the longer the process drags on the better as I'd currently have to double my salary to cover all the expenses :-/ I'm guessing it's a strong possibility we'll loose our home. On the other hand it's emotionally exhausting living in limbo and it's getting to me. Do the Police let you know once it goes to CPS? How long does CPS generally take? How long does it generally take from CPS deciding to prosecute to going to court? I'm just wondering what everyone's experiences are. The news reports all suggest the legal system is overwhelmed and that things are taking ages but on the other hand I'm hearing of others where things seem to be moving quickly. Just not sure what to expect.

Thanks for sharing. I really appreciate it.

Hi Hycinth,

I think this is a common cause of anxiety for us all. And not helped by the police often being very lax at keeping people in the loop or even misleading them by implying things are moving along nicely when that isn't the case. Why they do this when a similar attitude in other professions would lead to some kind of intervention from the boss is something I will never understand. We too would like to know when things go to the CPS as it helps a bit to have everything in little stages rather than a long silence and then WHAM charges!!!! Do you have a solicitor? We find that is slightly reassuring as she asks the police every now and then and occasionally gets a reply (if they also want more info for themselves usually)

I hope others further down the line will see this thread and share their own experiences so at least we have some idea of potential procedures and time-lines. But in the meantime I'm thinking of you and all of us who are just sitting here waiting.......

There is no consistency unfortunately, because things vary around the country. Solicitors are allowed to contact the police every 28 days for an update, but there is no obligation on the police to keep you informed of what is going on.

Hi it took almost 2 year for charges to be made but everything moved very quickly after that it went to cps then cps took about 3 month I would say to charge then after that very quick for court dates like within 4 weeks for plea and then about 5 weeks for sentencing. It's horrible the limbo stage but in a way it helped me to prepare for when he did loose job as I put away money for that eventuality so I've been able to manage but feel in the next year if he doesn't get on his feet financially I will loose my house as can't pay it on my own. X
