Seems he's going to sort out the prison system. So let's wait and see then...

Agree - at least they are beginning to realise huge numbers are being held in prisons that shouldnt really be there.
Not only wrong for people being locked up, that could safely carry out a 'punishment' in the community, all the pain and hardship their families have to go through.
what about the massive cost to the tax payer, building more prisons is not the answer, the ones we've got are bursting at the seams - that says it all in my opinion.

In my opinion it is rehabilitation and working with mental health teams to work out people's thought processes.
Prison is taking people away from the public, but this isn't going to fix any of the reasoning why it happens. Money needs to be spent on help, not looking up !!

The appointment of James Timpson as Prisons Secretary is an incredibly positive step.

If the prisons were funded properly then rehabilitation would be possible in more cases and will likely mean less returning offenders.
I don't think any of us want dangerous offenders roaming free!
I think it's definition that's needed and an alternative to prison. I can fully understand the victims point of view - but these people will be released back into the community one day like it or not..... isn't it best to set them free, feeling confident and supported when released, striving for a new beginning, a new start, encouragement to keep on the straight and narrow?
my son, yes deserved punishment for what he'd done, but I don't think prison was the answer to be honest for him and no doubt thousands of others. According to James Timpson - 2/3 of offenders should not locked up.

So here we are again.........
With so few prison spaces available it's planned to release prisoners early, exemption of sex offenders and serious violent offenders.
So we see again sex offenders all put under one umbrella, all classed as the same, now lumped together with serious violent offenders - which is just so unfair. They really are terrified of confronting this crime, question why the numbers are shooting up - unbelievable.
I know my son would have to remain in prison - which I can see and have to accept (although I don't agree with his sentence) - but I'm sure there must be massive numbers that could possibly be released early if adequately supported.
Do you see where I'm coming from?

Another thing that struck me - do the public realise there are whole prisons that house sex offenders only? I was aware of one a few miles away from me but never realised how many there are all over the country and Isle of Wight......

Yes our loved ones have done wrong, but I feel exactly as you do, there is no level of offending they are all tarnished under one umbrella xx

I think with so few places in prisons (working on a 99% full capacity), it will have to affect sentencing surely??????
This certainly won't be publicised, or the country would run wild!
