Hi,

Been a while since I wrote anything here. Just over 3 months since the knock. Hubby is engaged with LFF and doing the course. To be honest, I forget about it all most days. Until I start thinking about holidays.

It might sound so small in the scheme of things, but all the "dream" holidays we were planning now that he's retired and I have a bit more money may not happen depending on the outcome.

I know it's so common for people to end up on the sex offender register, and SO many holiday companies have it in their conditions that they can't travel with them.

We've got a cruise booked for his big birthday next year (me, him and my step daughter) and I'm so scared we will have to cancel.

He's promised me for YEARS a cruise to Norway for my big birthday in 2027, now scared I won't get to do that.

Anyone have any experience of doing holidays, not just air BnB types, but proper spoilt yourself cruises type holidays??

Hello Scared,

If it is any help we have done a few cruises to Norway and Europe since my husband's conviction in 2021 and despite being on the SOR and a SHPO for 10 years we have been fine to travel with no problems. We have avoided trips atm to Asia and the USA as per conditions of the ETSA and visa applications requiring information re: convictions but again were informed there is still a possibility of travel to the USA but a visa application would require an interview with the American embassy. Obviously as long as he complies with the reporting/notification process as per the SHPO/SOR to the Police etc all should be okay. I was concerned my husband would be stopped at passport control but I was advised by our passport office that unless there was a warrant out or he had committed an act of terrorism then nothing would flag up.
Hope this reassures you and you go on to have a lovely holiday.

Best wishes

katie x

Hello,

I'm just back from a cruise albeit with friends and not OH. When we were talking about it he said he'd like to do one so I've done a little reading up and it seems some of the American companies like Celebrity do background checks on guests! I've not found anything to say UK companies do it but you would need to check their t&c's.

We are flying out to Malta tomorrow for OH's big birthday and I am nervous even though OIC has cleared it all. Its all the what ifs, what if we see someone we know at the airport and what if he's refused entry. Fingers crossed it will be fine but it's just another layer of anxiety!

Thanks all for your replies. I'm not sure if the British ones do background checks but I know the t&C's for P&O and Cunard both say that anyone on the register isn't allowed to travel. Although Cunard's has only just been updated to say this. Guess it's just going to have to be a lot of reading the fine print.

I might be worrying about nothing as we are probably months away from any sort of court date, but I am a holiday planner and like to save knowing where I'm going!

I guess I've just wondered how they would ever know but I wouldn't ever want to take the chance!

What I read, and it was about holiday parks in this country, is that if some one is on the SOR and it is aginst the rules, then if anything happens then the person on the SOR will be the first to be accused. So some of the rules are for the persons protection. X

Webb89, that is such a good point. You see it all the time on dramas don't you, have you checked the register, I wouldn't have thought about that. Thank you x

We are going to Cyprus in a week or so and can't stop over thinking when he hands over his passport he will be taken of to another room. Some please put my mind at ease. He's newly been put on the sex reg for 5 years. He will inform the police station and his probation officer of the date and the return date.

I've heard from a few people in similar situations who were able to go on cruises without any problems, as long as they followed all the rules and did the necessary reporting. I just wonder if that's enough?
One thing I know for sure is that if you're trying to make your travel plans a bit easier and less stressful, booking a cheap business class flights can help. A bit more comfort on the flight could really help take some of the edge off and make the whole trip feel a little more manageable.
