Today's news will be old news tomorrow

Try to concentrate on what you can control and not what you cannot,

The media was my biggest concern but I have had nothing from anyone, those that know showed only care and understanding how difficult this is x

Yes its out there but you have come this far and you will continue to get through it

Hugs sent xx

Upset is right - when you are targeted by the media you think everyone is discussing and analysing you. But the interest soon wears off and moves on to something else....

I hate the fact my sons crime remains on Google but as Upset says you just cannot do anything about it - and it really is out of your control. You really have to put these issues to bed and move on as best you can.

tis a horrible time.....

Media is horrid, the first time my OH was in the press I couldn't feel my legs for 12 hours.

As everyone says, you will be surprised how few people read it. If there is no photo, it is unlikely that anyone will notice.

but also, there is also the relief that at least it's not a secret now.

Feel free to DM, happy to answer questions

Hi Poppop,

I was just checking in to see how you are all doing. I know it's only a couple of days since the case was in the media so very early days but I've been thinking of you.

I'm pleased to know there's been aftermath that's a good sign and over time you'll gradually start to relax.

The police have always come in plain clothes when they come to visit my son I think it's standard practice when they do their check in visits. They also come in a regular car so there is no police car parked outside the house.

We have a calendar in the kitchen that I ask my son to write his appointments on otherwise I wouldn't know. My sons an introvert and tends to think about things far more than talk about them whereas my daughter is the opposite and seems to think out loud all the time.

My son has had a good experience from his probation. He managed the structure of the community hours well even though it was through the freezing cold days in the winter. The probation groups were carefully chosen so that he was with people who wouldn't be a problem to him either because they had offended in similar ways or were just good people. He was discouraged from doing any hours on different days to the days he had been given due to the personalities of the people on those days. Part of his sentence was to do the Horizon course but he is still waiting to start that.

He initially met with his PO every week but that has now gone to fortnightly. She does ask him personal questions but he says he doesn't find it awkward to answer.

I hope your son has a similar experience to my son as probation has actually helped his confidence and self esteem grow.

Probation will 'manage' his community sentence. Weekly meetings, arrange Community Service/payback, liaise with other agencies offering financial& employment advice.

My son appeared to have no reports/assessments from Probation Officer.
