I just read interesting posts on 'understanding why' section on the forum. It was about various apps you can purchase to block certain things on the internet.

just struck me why not make this a legal requirement when young people get devices? surely a big step forward for their online safety? Make it a part of a contract?

I'm no technical expert and have little knowledge in this area but anything that protects our youngsters surely is important step forward in safeguarding on line?

Just a thought....

I have the parental control on my sons phone (even though he is a grown up). He is happy with this as it means he can't access any apps without me unlocking the control and giving him access. It costs nothing.

I use family link for my teen, it works well, but if you do make apps available to them, you can't then control anything within the app. But overall it is good, especially for kids/teens.

For both my sons I've set up family link for Android devices, Apples version for iPad with a pin code and child login and then Family Safety on laptop.

All apps, websites have to be approved.

Hardest thing I found particularly with Apple I had to set lower age otherwise it wouldn't allow the restrictions. But anything to keep my kids safe. Just wish I'd done it sooner.

Bobbie, we use the parental control on the Apple phones which means my son cannot download any apps without me turning the parental control off. If he wants to download an app he has to ask me to unlock the parental control which I do by putting in the PIN code I've set. As soon as the app is downloaded I turn parental control back on.
