Hi everyone. After going through this experience and seeing others in a similar position I was wondering if anyone has made a complaint about police mistreatment in these cases? I feel the way we’ve been treated by the OIC from day one has just been unfair and don’t want to stay silent on the matter. I fear trying to say anything will just be like shouting into the void since they have the position of authority. On the other hand I can’t stand to sit silent on their abuse of their positions.

If anyone has any experience or advice with this I’d like to know whether you managed to get anywhere with it and how to go about it.

We are looking into finding a lawyer but the money side of it is going to be a challenge and the duty solicitor was no help at all.

I wrote a lengthy complaint and submitted to the IOPC following lies stating the case would be NFA'd which were then withdrawn as well as attempts my son made to take his own life.

I mainly did mine so it was all documented in the event that anything did happen to myself or my son and there was written records of dates and times of wrong doing by police officers involved to make it easier for others to hold the police accountable if either myself or my son or both of us were no longer around. I also sent copies of the complaint to my closest friends.

The police have been just as bad dealing with the complaint as they have been dealing with the entire case.

However, I believe in always advocating for yourself and standing up for what is right. Make the complaint and fight for what is right. Sending strength. xxx

Obviously I've had police involvement due to the knock but since then I've been a victim of another crime and I have to say the police were very good.

I always think that sexual offence crimes must be horrible for them to deal with and imagine they tar all with the same brush. How do they know who was a serious threat or an accidental download - all are going to protest innocence. Also those people who have to view the images? That must be upsetting.

Sunshine5 - thank you for this response. If I am being honest with myself I really don’t expect much from this but I agree we should fight for what is right.

If everyone had the same idea that there’s no point in trying to speak out because it won’t get anywhere then their will be no chance of any kind of change happening.

AnxiousGirl - Just because not all police aren’t bad doesn’t mean we shouldn’t call out the ones who are.

I’m sure it can be a horrible job but they chose their career and they have the choice on whether they abuse their position of power which they often do. It is literally their job to be objective and to find out the facts. This isn’t something that should be ignored. I’m sorry but any shred of sympathy I can have for them has been soiled by the poor and unfair treatment we have received from our OIC.

I made my first complaint the day after the knock.

up to now I have made 6 complaints in total since Jan 23.

5 are "on hold" whilst the case is investigated. But I will carry on fighting these dependant on investigation and their answers to negligence.

1 we got a very very contrary reply so I complained about that, I fought that one and got "an apology" from the OIC, but they were not removed from the case (that officer knows us as a family personally) so I complained again for them to be removed from the case. This is now forming part of a personal law suit.

The first 3 responses will be brush offs, you then have to make another complaint about the previous complaint and how it was handled. It is a long battle. But i believe they need to be held accountable! And the only people who can do that is us. It is draining though.
