Hello ladies,

I don't come on here often anymore but wanted to reach out for advice on where to find a good therapist? I considered the stop it now therapists but I also want to discuss wider mental health and other issues from my past, not just what happened. I am also reluctant to go via the NHS as I have had counselling previously from them and did not find it overly helpful, particularly as it was a limited 12 session type thing.

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

BACP website is good as you can search for registered therapists, though I don't think most openly advertise that they will help with sexual offending and I personally feel although we haven't committed the offence, it's helpful to speak to someone that will understand the behaviour rather than judge it which can be detrimental to your journey. It might be worth making contact with some that you feel would be helpful in the other areas to see if they are open to it.

I went through the NHS and got lucky that my therapist is okay and non judgemental talking about what's happened but I know not all will be.

I used a StopSo therapist; they are trained in lots of stuff and she was brilliant and discussing all manner of issues.

Hi

I recommend Acts Fast. The specialise in helping family and friends of offenders. They are also affordable as they charge based on your income.

They do talking therapy, trauma work and CBT. I was able to talk about anything with my counsellor.

You could google search clinical psychologists in your local area if you'd prefer face to face sessions. When you're searching look out for someone who is registered with the Health Professionals Council (HCPC) and British Psychological Society (BPS) so you can be assured that they will be working to a code of conduct and ethical principles. Some offer a free consultation so you can see if they are right for you.
