Hi All,

hope you're all okay.

I was wondering if anyone knows if antidepressants could potentially help me.

I have never struggled with my mood prior to the knock 3 weeks ago.

I am trying to carry on as normal for my other children, one who is a baby and with me all day. So I am finding it hard to act normal all the time and feel numb mainly.

I usually cry easily but I have hardly cried and mainly the feeling is more numbness.

I would appreciate any insight or experience with this and if medication helped with daily functioning please.

Thank you x

Hello Crushed,

im sorry your find yourself in this situation, especially with a young family to care for.

i have taken antidepressants for various reasons over the years and they can help, they just take the edge off any anxiety, worries and make day to day activities more achievable, they take a little while to get into your system. But I'm sure if you speak with your GP, they will help you.

I m sure there are other ladies on this forum who have had similar experiences.

take care and take time for you as well.

xx

keep in your mind 'it's for now not forever!'

Hi Crushed, personally I think antidepressants do help. They don't take the pain and anxiety away but they do help you to function despite it. Like you I didnt ever really cry but found the numbness and feelings of dread overwhelming. I started on medication about 3 weeks after my sons arrest and found it helped with my sleep and concentration.

Hello,

I'm sorry you are struggling, I myself have young children and have struggled with the day to day pressures of caring for them and putting on a brave face whilst dealing with the aftermath of the knock. I have been taking medication for anxiety for around a month now and have found it so helpful alongside some counselling and talking therapy. Hope this helps xx

Hi Crushed - Personally I have managed to avoid medication but on reflection wished I had pursued support especially at the beginning.

i know a few people who take antidepressants - two being family members. Like the ladies have said they help take the edge off your stress levels.

If it takes one tablet a day to make your life more tolerable and be monitored by your GP it can only be a good tool towards getting back on the coping track.

Morning Crushed x

So sorry to read how you are struggling so just wanted to send you hugs xx

I have been taking Antidepressants for over a year and half, they do help calm the level of anxiety ,so for me it is the right decision for now to stay on them, my daughter has come off hers just over 4 months ago and is doing ok , it's a personal choice to take them xx

Hi,

I was already on anti depressants before my OH was arrested. It was a low dose though. I saw my GP about a month after the knock and he increased the amount as my anxiety was getting out of control and I found the increase helped.

Speak to your GP. They can always put you on a low dose to start so you can then see how you get on.
