Job resignation

Hello all,
I just wanted an honest advice about how to deal with this. My partner received charges and it is due first court hearing in some weeks. He has been working normally until now.
We had discussion with our therapist what to do now. His work does compliance checks regularly and his contract state he will need to disclose convictions, so we know they will find out at some point.
We are thinking if just resigning is better or if explaining he will face court and ask them if there is any chance of staying otherwise if they can let us know and he would prefer to just resign. We are worried about the future. I guess is better in a future interview to say that he resigned rather than he was fired.
We are also worried about what they can disclose in the future if they get contacted by a future possible employer. Our therapist says that is better to be honest as people might find out at some point and the company would get even more angry if they are put at risk of bad press or stuff like that and would consider him as unfaithful. Please anyone with advice and personal experiences on this would be a real help.
We know 95% he will get fire we would just like to know the best way to approach this. My person works in the finance industry and they do have strict checks as they need to comply with FCA standards

My OH resigned, it means you can get a reference and he would have been fired anyway. It was a weight off when he did

My oh took his redundancy a few months previous, he now does factory work which requires no checks he will do that for the year when his conviction is spent
I've seen others talk about factory jobs but the only things my oh ever sees are at warehouses through agencies anc I thought they always want checks.
