Hi,
If the devices come back clean and he hasn't admitted, he will get NFA (No Further Action).
However, prepare for a long wait. Our whole process from start to finish was 3.5 years. Police took 2.5 years to come back with the forensics report for the devices. Ours was exceptionally long but avarage is 18 months.
Also prepare yourself. If he has done it, even if he has deleted it, they will find them. My OH had 141 category A, 240 category B and 750 category c images in his laptop. Only 53 of those images were present at the time. The rest were deleted but still discovered.
Really sorry you are going through this X

Oh my god I'm so sorry to hear how long that process took you, what was the over all sentencing for that??
And yes we are just left in limbo. Even if they come back clear...there is still evidence or something that was flagged up to the police about those images.. So he must of looked at something..
Would you suggest that what they interviewed him over isn't currently enough to get a charge considering there was no admissions in the interview even tho some of the images in question are the worst grade? So many questions X

Lonely, it is very difficult to say. They don’t like to tell the truth because they are ashamed and scared.
Admission of guilt at the first opportunity means 30% reduction in sentence. But he told you that they won’t be able to find anything. If they don’t, then they would give him NFA. Unless of course they have proof that he viewed images. Then they can charge him for that.
My OH was charged for making hundreds (means downloading and making a copy), distributing (sharing with someone else) one image and communication with a police decoy which is charged as attempted communication.
He was given 2 years suspended sentence, 250 hours unpaid community work, 10 years SOR, 10 years SHPO and victim fine. This was with 30% reduction due to him admitting at the first opportunity, and mitigating factors like I stayed with him, he had a job etc.
Please remember that every situation is unique and sentences vary a lot

If the police are saying they viewed the images but there is nothing on his devices, then it sounds as though they have another persons device and they think the images were being sent on to him.
He may have received them and deleted them, but often people think the images have disappeared from their device and it turns out they were wrong.
