Hi everyone...

My OH has his plea hearing in September and I'm really worried about the Media reporting his case and making it publicly known. Are plea hearings normally put in the paper even if he pleads not guilty? Is it best for us both to deactivate all our social media accounts so the press can't obtain any photos etc?

Shut everything down, google his name and put into other social media searches and take down anything you can.

i spent ages reading other reports and seeing where the press get photos from. They will scour everything!

if there is no photo, people don't notice the report.

So much is out of our control, it is good to control the controllable with this

feel free to message me

Hello,

My OH disabled his social media when this all started and I disabled mine the day before the plea hearing. I did a search of his name whilst waiting to go into court and found an Etsy account with his photo that we had completely forgot about.

There was a reporter in the court room and it has been reported. I actually saw him arrive and go into the court room and worked out who he was due to a comment made by one of the court workers. Just to say the court workers comment was not very flattering!

We had decided beforehand that my OH would change out of his suit into casual clothing and we would leave separately. My OH also waiting in the toilet for about 20mins before leaving. Not sure if the reporter had gone outside waiting to catch OH but I did pass him coming back into the court building when I was leaving.

my family member came off social media the year prior, they reported in social media of the plea hearing and as were such a small village and everyone knows everyone , even though his picture wasn't printed the address was so people new instantly it was him. didn't even wait for an explanation before the witch hunt started ..take it all down it may help and I hope bo reporter is there they really are vile with their reporting it isn't always accurate and they tend to leave a lot out the could give people an insight into what's really gone on in some cases they want the public in their Web click bate xx

Both please hearing and sentencing was on social media and front page on the local papers. They used a photo taken as he left court the first time. He deleted his Facebook etc but it's easy to find if you Google.

I didn't delete anything - I haven't done anything wrong. Wasn't nice to read the comments that were made.

What if you are lucky enough not to have the Press in court......how can you stop the Police posting it on their page?

They normally write defendant's name and the address (but not house number) and include a photo?

No way to stop police to my knowledge. Others might have been successful with this.

But they don't always take a photo, ask your person if they did. Police only took photo of my person after sentencing for SOR.

Hugs to you xx

Hi, my experience was that there wasn't a court reporter in court on the day so I thought I'd got away with it. Six weeks later, the officer in charge phoned me to let me know I had two hours notice before the Police Press Department put my ex's case, name, age and our road address across social media. From there it was picked up by the local press. It happened to be half term so my poor 12 and 14yr olds had to return to school with everyone knowing what their father had done. It was horrendous and by far the worst aspect of the whole thing. OT felt so unfair. I do understand why the Police do it, they were fully expecting someone to come forward to say they'd been abused in person by him, but no one did. What's even worse is that he's done it again so I've potentially got to go through the whole media thing all over again. X

I was in court with my ex and there was literally no-one around. It was just me in the gallery if that makes you feel any better!

If the offender is on remand Iss the adddress of the prison given in court, rather than home address?

At plea hearing, his old address was given, even thoug the police knew he lived with us.

How do you access the police media, identifying an offender?

Thanks to all for enabling this dialogue.

EBP, hi, my ex was on remand having been arrested at the family home. 6 weeks after sentencing, the Police Press Office (they all have one), put his mug shot, name, conviction, sentence and our family address on their social media which was then picked up by the press. There was no court reporter on the day of sentencing but that didn't matter in the end. If I were you, I'd close down all your social media accounts and whatever you do, don't read the condiments, which I did. Huge mistake. Xx

I read comments on my sons news reports, it's hard to resist, I probably shouldn't have.

It was devastating to see - foul comments. But I soon got my head round it by thinking - they reacted on what was printed, they knew nothing of the circumstances, they didn't know my son as a whole person. I know the truth they do not.......

So it was filed away in my mind..... as I moved on.......

We didn't have reporter in the actual court room, they was in for the one before but didn't come back in for oh, we thought hopefully nothing would come of it but unfortunately someone stayed on the online link to the court room from the case before and published, luckily no address or picture and so far nobody as mentioned anything. I deleted oh social media things as on bail not meant to use internet, I stayed on mine and as I say nothing so far

Tired soul, just wanted to point out that just because there's no one else in the gallery/courtroom on the day, doesn't mean they aren't online watching proceedings. The Police also have a county press department who can issue statements to the press as happened in my ex's case, 6 weeks after the sentencing with no reporter in the court.

My ex had no reporter in court. About 3 weeks after sentence the police published it in the paper and it ended up all over social media. With his picture they took the day he got arrested.
a brief description of his charges were on there too.
People don't know the full story just what the police published. They posted the address where he was bailed at too. He's currently in prison now.

I had taken myself off all social media and didn't read any comments but got told about a few. So please don't read comments. People react and have opinions that are not nice.
