Good evening,

I was just wondering if anyone may be able to share what the/their process was like leading up to release from prison?

My OH is about 6 weeks off of being released and I was just wondering if there is anything I should be keeping an eye out for so I can start to mentally prepare? Were you contacted by probation before release? Was a home visit conducted? Telephone calls?

We have had to be quite proactive in getting things moving from the inside (shockingly!!) and I wouldn't want anything coming up at the last minute if I can get things addressed sooner!

Any advice/information about leading up to and the initial couple of weeks following release would be greatly appreciated!!

I wasn't told anything about his release but they did know that I wasn't allowing him to come home.

In theory he should meet his PO and have seen his license condition 6 weeks before release - Unfortunately, this doesn't always happen do far out, but if he hadn't I suggests he talk to his prision PO and via them get contacts for is community PO. His licence conditions had a no Internet enabled devices which was a big blow for us, that and having to go to a hostel.

I think the process is slightly different for everyone, but I can tell you what happened for us.

He did meet his community PO before he left prison and was shown his licencing conditions. He was told he would be going to a hostel on release for 6 weeks and closer to release, he was told which one. His community PO and the police VISOR did conduct a home visit and this was organised with me, while I think they over stepped the mark with some of the questions they asked me, the visit itself wasn't intrusive, they didn't look around. But I know someone from prison visits where their visit was unannounced and they did look around, but I think the circumstances of their relationship hadn't been presented honestly to the PO.

Most important thing is license conditions and housing.

Thank you for the information!!

He has no idea who his PO is despite asking his OMU several times (we have been led to believe these are different people!!). I think I'll suggest he puts another app in next week as we will be another week closer. Just hoping he doesn't have to go to an AP...I honestly don't see the benefit for him and it would just be another delay for him accessing any support.

Thank you again...:-)

How long is it until he is released? It is different people. Keep pushing, it's frustrating as they will often know months in advance if he will go to an AP as places have to be booked.
