Can anybody tell me what happens at sentencing please? Also, how many of your cases hit the media? And how long after court did it go in the media if it did. Thank you.
Hi, I can tell you what happened at my sons sentencing.
My son had to arrive at the court an hour before his sentencing to meet with his solicitor. He had been told there was a possibility of prison so went with what we called his 'just in case bag' packed.
He met with his solicitor first and then waited in the waiting room to be called in to court.
Once in the court room the prosecution outlined the evidence in detail. They weren't there in person but appeared on a screen. My son had 3 charges and the judge discussed the sentencing guidelines for each of the charges. He acknowledged the letters my son had from LFF and his therapist. My sons solicitor then spoke up, he didn't really present any mitigation but he did outline what had led up to my son offending in the way he had.
Once all evidence had been presented and my sons solicitor had said his piece, the judge outlined the SHPO. Following this he summed up the case and gave the sentence with his reasons behind his decision.
The sentencing probably took between 45 minutes and an hour.
Although there were no media to be seen in court they must have been there remotely as the case was on social media the same day and in the paper the following week.
