Anyone understand snapchat

Hi so my 16yr old used snapchat in last year of school for project. Requested to do so by teachers. This was last October. We got knock end of July 2024. They seemed fixed on certain time frame. Only his devices taken even though he had recently started using desktop.
My question is snapchat do you just see items people send you?
In space of October to July he reported 3 things on snapchat and one violated. He won't talk about it only that yeah it was probably iioc.
Because I don't understand snapchat I'm wondering were the items what someone sent him. Was he being groomed.
The knock was 7.30 in the morning. They said they had thought hard and decided best to come in plain clothes and unmarked cars (is this normal). So then I wonder what they knew about us as a family. They spoke of needing to find out if the image was saved. I also got impression it was image of teenage age bracket because they said several times child is 18 and below.
It all seemed like it's one particular incident and I can't help think it's snapchat related.

I'm not an expert but I've been told that a person can put a story on Snapchat but only people who are 'friends' with that person on Snapchat would be able to view it. It would be very unlikely though that someone would post something illegal in a story. Otherwise I think you'd only be able to see a picture if it is sent to you.
I hope that helps answer your question.

Hi Ocean
Thank you. That is what I was thinking. It does concern me he's reported stuff and one violated which then makes me think all other scenarios like grooming etc. And fact the police spoke as if looking for one image.

Any social media platform has a dark side. But in general you can only talk to people on snap if they're your friend, you can send private, group and mini group messages. Adults can't add under 17 year olds, unless they have a certain number of friends on common now. but this however, doesn't stop an adult posing as a teen to get round this. Most kids use it to chat and "streak" basically, sending a picture every day to get your streak count up. I thought I was quite savy on socials, but this journey opened my eyes to so much more.
Re unmarked cars and plain clothes, thats what they always do.

I wish he had never had it and we do feel this is at centre of why we find ourselves in this situation. A few other things have happened since which we wonder if related. On his college course (started this term) was someone from his old class at school. He didn't even last first day and now changed courses. We wonder if the person related to all this.
It's case of every scenario going around our head.
