So my person came out of prison 10 days ago. He was sent to a probation hostel. However, they failed to tell him or his po he was only booked in for 10 days. So as of this morning he is homeless. He's gone to his Po office to see what's going to happen now.

I can't believe they can do this. What is this country coming to.

My person is still in emergency temporary accommodation 6 months after release. It is like he has been forgotten about. But not my problem.

They are saying there isn't anywhere he can go. They are all full or can't take him. I agree he's not my problem. But maybe he could be someone else's??

This is my biggest fear when my my son is eventually released. For family reasons he cannot return home so again, if homeless I would feel terrible guilt.

at recent probation meetings he has been told he will not be homeless on release and will be 'set up NOT to fail'. It all sounds too good to be true, will they find accommodation- support him as he sets himself up financially and live independently? I desperately hope so but it all sounds very rosey!

I just cannot understand - how do they comply with all the restrictions when homeless? Where's the public outcry that sex offenders are being released then go on to live on the streets?
usually the public are always ready to pounce on sex offenders in any way shape or form aren't they?

Hi Smile,

He's was sent back to the probation hostel for another night. But today he has to leave again. He spent yesterday walking the streets. The council have basically told him he's not their problem. Probation are saying they are struggling to find him anywhere. I am the only person he still has contact with but like you he can't come to me.

I am honestly struggling to comprehend what is going on and feel they are setting him up to fail. I honestly don't know if he's a risk to the public, but he's not safe on the streets sex offender or not.

The system is failing not only him but the public to. I understand the prison system is over populated, its all over the news. What they fail to report is the shocking failures these other departments are facing. Does the public even realise the 5500 prisoners they are releasing early probably have nowhere to go either. I've not seen any news reports.

To me it looks like Probation hostels are being emptied out to put in new releases.

I will hear from him later. Let's see what today brings.

Hate to say it - but if this is the case they are better off in prison.

My son told me most of the guys say they prefer to serve their full sentence in prison rather than be released on parole.

i think that's very sad......

Dexbo, that's terrible. Does the council have a homeless prevention department as they really should be helping and advising him where he needs to go. They should also be able to make refers to the emergency housing shelter in the area he is staying in. Who provides the emergency shelter beds in his area as they would know how he gets a referral? Is it that all the emergency shelter beds in his area are full or that probation don't know how to access them?

Hi, about two weeks after my ex got out it prison, he was put in a shared house with other criminals that was run by a charity.
After about 15 months, one of the other hardened criminals googled my ex because he didn't "fit in". Once they discovered what he was inside for he was forced out by them and became homeless. It seems that even in the criminal world there's a hierarchy.
