SOR required?

Hello all - just coming for some advice and experiences.
My OH pleaded guilty at magistrate for communication attempt and had a few days ago his probation pre sentence report interview.
The probation officer mentioned he did not register at the police station but we explicitly asked (with solicitor present) both the prosecutor and the court probation officer on the day of the magistrate if and when he had to sign the SOR (we asked because I saw many of you talking about it) and they said that as the offence falls in the criminal attempt act (police decoy) rather than criminal offence act it was not require.
Now police and probation says it is require but the prosecutor says no, no-one gives us an answer. Does anyone had any experience with this? Our solicitor just emailed police and the court explaning but still waiting (everything seem so unclear)

Hi Galaxy, my understanding is that cases are sentenced in the same way regardless of whether it was with a decoy or actual person. The only difference being that there would be no victim impact to take into consideration in the case of a decoy.
Do they need to sign after magistrate immediately or after crown sentencing? Does anyone tell you for how long or how often?
Hi Galaxy x
It would be after sentancing they need to sign x

Usually you have to sign the register after magistrates court and before sentencing within 3 days of plea hearing and then every year on the same date for however long the time on SOR is for but the lowest number of years is five I believe.
So in our case (which was also communication with a decoy ) the first signing was in 2022 and sentencing was 2023 and although the sentence will end in 2026 the time on SOR will end in December 2027.

My son had to sign within 3 days of plea hearing at magistrates court. Each time he makes a change to his form (which he's done several times in the last year) his yearly signing date starts again from then.
My husband signed 3 days after his trial before sentencing he was sentenced to 1 year on sor
We were never told to register at the police station within 3 days of my OH plea hearing at crown court and didn't know he had to until we received a notice in the post 5 days after that he had to. He registered at the police station straight away but still received a visit from a police officer and a warning for not registering within 3 days of appearing at court.
Just for anyone else that reads this, always get it in writing if they say you don't need too as after any charge at magistrates, you have to register within 3 days. I would recommend going to the police station stright from magistrates, to get it done.
Put the yearly reporting date in your diary. We report every year, even if he has been in and reported holidays etc. It keeps it simple. We also do it at least 10 days earlier then the anniversery, so it's done. (this was our solicitors advice as he said most people get caught out when they lose track of dates)
When you report anything, take a photo. We take a photo of everything we report, holidays, bank cards, new devices we take a photo of the paperwork the officer at the front desk has filled in and have a file on our phones. Paperwork does get lost and people are human so protect yourself from anything that could be seen as a breach.
