We are 16 months past sentencing and the anxiety I feel every time there's a knock at the door or a strange car pulls up has never left me. I was hoping this would fade overr time but for me it hasn't

Hi, I'm 7 years post first knock and I jump every single time the doorbell rings or a car pulls up outside. In fact I moved into a bedroom at the back of the property because I just couldn't cope with it anymore. X

Hi,

I am exactly the same, unknown people at the door and cars pulling up. The after effects of "the knock". The initial police visit was bad but I think I was more traumatised by the social worker who came with 3 police officers when they were asking my OH to leave the home. He actually was at work, but it was a poorly handled situation.

I have no helpful suggestions but you are not alone.

Three and a half years post knock and I still jump. On one occasion when the police came to check my husbands devices they witnessed a full blown trigger of my PTSD. They called at 08:00 hrs one morning and I was on my day off work and still in bed. I absolutely laid into them to the point my husband told me to calm down in fear I would be arrested. When I eventually calmed down I explained to them how the knock had affected me and their visit at 08:00 was totally insensitive to me and had been extremely triggering due to the fact I was awoken by their presence at the same time on the day of the knock. They listened, apologised and said they totally understood my reaction and promised future visits would happen after 12pm.
Whilst grateful for their apology and future consideration I just think the police need some psychological training to consider the impact on other family who have to suffer this trauma.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Yes, nearly 2 years down the line, I still get triggered by a knock on the door or the sight of a police car (even though the cars were unmarked)

It was 7.30am on the Winter Solstice for us (we celebrate the Solstices, so you can imagine how tainted that's become for our family)

We were treated incredibly kindly, but of course, it doesn't matter how gentle the police are, the whole situation is traumatic.

Three years in October since we got The Knock. Son received email on Friday to say he has an interview next Sunday. First contact in 3 years.

Numb at this stage

I was at work when the police turned up at my home so don't really have an experience of the knock.

After me ignoring multiple calls on my mobile from an unknown number the police then turned up at my work!

So the other morning might have been Thursday. It was around 7.30am and the Ring Doorbell went off and thought wtf here we go again. Looked via my phone was a early Amazon delivery.

Like I have said 2 and halve years pass sentencing and this really shook me up.
