Two months since the knock and still questioning everything

I read other posts and feel so alone. All the posts read the person's admitted it but my childs story is different. He's actually reported stuff. I've mentioned before he had snapchat for school and reported an item they agreed violated. He's scared something downloaded without him knowing. And fact police seemed fixed on a certain period, saying if image not found that's it case over.
Reading posts of it taking over a year for devices to be checked. Feeling can't plan anything whilst this is hanging over us.
I still think it's related to someone from school. But he won't talk about it. For me reporting something on snapchat it was most likely something someone sent him. Then I wonder is he scared of someone.
Thankfully he's getting on with his A-levels so maybe it's good he's blocked it out for now.
In case it is school related I've arranged a new sim so new number. That way restricts being able to contact him hopefully. He's no social media because was never his thing and if not for school would never have had snapchat. Plus restrictions on all household devices which doesn't bother him. Only issue being if at college and needing to get on something but we work around it.
Just want the nightmare over.

I am so sorry that you find yourself here. Have the police given you any timescale for checking your son's devices? To me, it seems very cruel for a young person, like your son, to have to wait so long before you know what the outcome is going to be from the police.
If your son is under 18 years old, you really want this sorted out before your son turns 18 years, so that he is treated as a youth throughout the process.
I am thinking of you and your son.

Thank you.
He was 16 at end of school, so one of youngest in year. That is my worry though when you see how long these things take.
Police said can be up to a year for devices even checking. Which I get they have that many but when innocent people get caught up in this it rips lives apart.

Once the devices have been checked if it has to go to the CPS it will be sent to the Youth Section (if your son is still under 18) of the CPS. There timescales are generally a lot quicker than the other areas of the CPS.
Hopefully with your son's case he will receive a NFA or a Youth caution.
You and your son may also find it useful to speak with the helpline for their support whilst you are waiting to hear back from the police.
I hope this information is of some help to you.

This jouney is a very lonely one and I'm sorry to know you're feeling so alone. Did the police give you any idea what it is they are looking for and what they are investigating? Getting information from the police can be difficult but in your case they seem to have left you without any.
Hi Ocean
Police gave nothing specific its all little bits we picked from how they spoke. Even when I messaged to ask something they never replied. His college safeguarding also never had response from them.
All we gathered it's since last October, they only took his devices and it seemed to link to his username.
They did seem to repeat 'you know a child is under 18'. That made me think older teens.
Then they said 'find out what happened to the image'.
Followed by if nothing on devices that's end of case.
The solicitor said another Police Station under same county would tell him details but the police station we have haven't.
Feel my sons easy target and tick box exercise for them to get numbers.
We did wonder if this is linked to more than an investigation that images looked at. The other strange thing is he was all for doing computer software and first day never went back and changed direction. On the course was someone from his school. Now without going into detail we were surprised when he said someone from school was on his course. This may not be linked but very odd. He's no interest in computers now.
With solicitor with him my son fully cooporated in interview.
Plus after I told them we have emails of several reports to snapchat by my son and one snapchat accepted as violation.
I just wish they could give us more but they said they can't. Again does this point to another investigation.
