Same situation, they took my OH on Friday, 1 cat C image on a social media app, he no longer has. Like your dad, he's not that great with tech.
There are people who find themselves in this situation as a result of downloading films etc from unsafe websites. It is possible that your dad has never seen the image in question. When you're further down the line of investigation it may be worth looking at hiring someone to do an independent check of whatever device the police find the image on to prove that it was never viewed or uploaded by him.
The process can take a long time but given your dads occupation I'd hope that they would push it through as obviously this error on their part can have some pretty major ramifications on his job xxx

My OH downloaded, what he thought was 'legal' porn but was from unsafe sites and within in that was iioc. Unlike your dad he is very tech savvy and knows how to cover his tracks if he thought he was doing anything dodgy (not that he would do anything like that at all).
Well done on reaching out and I'm so sorry you've found yourself joining us here.
Sadly the journey you've now found yourselves on is long, painful and full of stress and anxiety so I recommend taking any help you can get. If you haven't already done so I recommend all of you contacting the Stop it now helpline for expert help and support. I also recommend reaching out to your GP. My person is my son and we both needed help with medication to get us through our dark days and nights.
I suggest you think carefully about who you tell a once you've told someone you can't take it back. I chose to tell my immediate family and they were all great. Unfortunately I also chose to tell another family member who proved to be very judgemental and who immediately turned their back on my son.
I was advised in my early days to take one day at a time which is far easier sad than done but if you can do it really does help.
I'm here to support you so keep reaching out, practise self care and keep supporting each other.
