When my husband was arrested from his work on a Friday in May he was taken to a police station and kept in for weekend and at court on the Monday I wasn't told any info just could he return home well obviously I said yes as had no idea to the extent of the crime but I went to the court on the Monday hoping his solicitor would find me as I told the police I would be there but no had to sit and listen to others that had been charged the court closed and everyone had to leave I spoke to a police officer in the court mentioned my husbands name and she told me he was next yet I had to leave is this normal for it to be a closed court yet I still had no idea what he'd done and still today only know what he's told me reading on here others had been in court from what I gather and heard what their partners had done I'm confused ????

Hi

here in Scotland a closed court is called a private appearance which means only the judge, court staff and the defendant are in the court. It's standard practice here for anything sexual or serious such as murder. They only appear in private or closed court here for their first court appearance. When they appear after that it's an open court. I only know this because our son went through the system. It may well be the same in England c

Hi vikter, I understand you are also in Scotland, from my understanding a closed court or appearing in private, is due to the nature of the offence, my husband (ex) is a second offender and both his 1st court appearances were in private / closed court, 1st time like you I didn't know it was closed until his lawyer came over and told me as he was appearing from police custody on the Monday. Am assuming your husband is on bail, have you had any further dates for his trial/ hearing
