I came off of social media the day before court. There was the option to suspend the account so I did that. My sons case was on line and in the local paper after both magistrates court and crown court but I chose not to read them.

In time we'll be looking at trying to get the online stories removed but for now we try to forget they exist.

There are lots of different options on the different platforms. Disable, delete, suspend etc. They do different things so check the settings carefully.

You want to make sure that whatever you do, it removes all photos, so the media have nothing they can use. Obviously you also want to stop anyone commenting on the account or trying to contact you or any of your family.

Personnally, I would delete everything as soon as possible, as there is always a chance rumours might come out, even before it gets to the court.

With Facebook, there's a number of privacy settings.

You can set it so nobody can search for you, or hide your friends list, choose who can message you or not, change your photo album settings etc

I didn't delete mine, I took all photos off of my partner at the time of arrest and he's never had Facebook so he wasn't tagged in anything on there xxx
