Ive read many cases on here that had plea hearing at magistrates and then sentencing at crown. My persons case is staying in magistrates, no media were there at plea. Has anybodys person gone to magistrates for sentencing and managed to avoid media for second time? Court isnt until next month but the thought keeps randomly sneaking up on me. And while im here would anybody know why my persons case stayed in magistrates? Thank you. Xx

Hi,

It is all to do with the possible sentence. I think magistrates can sentence up to 6 months custodial, if they think it is going to be greater than that or it is perceived to be a more serious offence it gets sent to crown.

We were "lucky" there were press in the sentencing hearing at magistrates, but nothing released (that we have seen). There are so many cases now that unless the person is in a high risk occupation or has offended in a "major" way (not to downplay the potential severity of any of these offences) they don't always print anything.

Fingers crossed for you.

My ex's case was at Crown but there were no media there that day so I thought we'd gotten away with particular delightful element of this whole nightmare. Six weeks later, the officer in charge phoned me "as a courtesy " to let me know that in 2 hours time the Police Media Dept were publishing my ex's case and all the details including the road I was living in with our children across the County wide Police social media platforms. It was then picked up by local media. I was devastated and it had a terrible effect on my 2 children particularly at school. The media can called log into the courts remotely. I think though, there are so many of these cases nowadays that if they reported on all of them, nothing else would ever get a look in. X

No media were present at my persons case but the local paper download a list of the court list with the name, street address, offence and sentence and published that online. It comes up when you Google their name and town ???? it's awful and such a worry but apparently it can be removed from Google searches once the offence is spent

We had 11 appearances at magistrates and stayed at magistrates we avoided press right until the sentencing and it was then published it felt like the end of the world to me I came off all social media, we had no issues at all except in our minds your looking at people and wondering if they know, I didn't see what was posted on social media and didn't want to know that way I couldn't worry or react to anything I didn't know, hope that makes some sort of sense to you

My OH's case stayed at magistrates. He pleaded guilty and recently received a 6 month suspended sentence. There were no press at either hearing and nothing has appeared online (though I don't think I'll fully relax until a few more weeks have passed, given others' experiences on here). We are in London, which I'm sure has helped on the press front.

Hoping you have a similar experience.
