Experiences with probation officers?

I just wanted to ask what people's experiences have been with probation officers in cases where their person has been given probation. I've seen them described as similar to chocolate teapots in some cases (so basically useless) but in other cases they are very helpful to the person. Is it just luck of the draw as to whether you get a good one?

My OH's seems really good. She was really supportive with SS and him coming home.

She also referred him to an employment programme thing which was helpful.

i get the impression it is luck of the draw though x

My son has had 2 probation officers both of whom have been supportive and helpful.

He still has another 11 months to go but so far so good.

My sons PO was a complete waste of time. He put every obstacle in his way possible. It was quite clear he had a problem with men who committed this crime. It really is down to luck x

My person's PO was relatively good. He helped my partner job search but because he had a degree there wasn't much to offer in terms of further training and courses (he has RAH days to complete, I think that was what they were called).

The only time where we found the PO to not be great was right near the end of his probation period they realised I had a under 16 in the family and had on at least one occasion my partner been in contact (supervised by me) but his SHPO does state no contact unless parents and SS aware.

We misunderstood the clause, thinking it would be ok as long as I was present.

So I would advise that a family tree is drawn up intially to avoid that issue.
