Pre-Sentence Report

Hi all,
My partner had his pre-sentence probation meeting today. He said it started well, as they gave him chance to outline improvements in his life, eg finding a new job, attending counselling. He did not deny any offences and tried to be as remorseful as possible.
However, they asked him if he had a sexual attraction towards children, and when he said no, they were not very happy with his answer. The mood shifted, and my partner is worried if he has now come across as too defensive.
At the plea hearing, the judge said a community order would be likely. However, probation has said that prison time is still potentially an option, which has obviously worried us both.
We were told probation would be quite supportive, as long as he admitted fault. Is this normal?

They always ask the question about attraction, because it is a risk factor, although I don't really know what they gain from it. I suppose its regarded as a test of a persons honesty, or to see if they are in denial about what they have done. It should not affect the sentence, unless it were seen as part of a wider pattern of behaviour, including lack of remorse for example.
So far as I'm aware, probation never ask if someone is a porn addict. That could be because addiction is seen as an excuse, or because they just don't understand what is going on. The thing everyone is worried about, is will the person go on to commit contact offences. An attraction is thought to make this more likely, even though no evidence really exists to support that belief.

Hi Sunrise, the question of whether they have a sexual attraction towards children seems to be a standard question asked by probation and will also be asked by the offender manager (ViSOR) once your person is placed on the SOR.
