Has anyone ever had the interpol green notice used when their person was travelling abroad? We have a big trip planned for a country that doesn't allow in registered sex offenders in from the USA (apparently the USA now marks all passports irrespective of the nature of the offence). But we will have to defer the trip until all this is behind us due to finances.

My impression is it is only for the most serious high-risk offenders.

I do not know about green notices. The Unlock website is a good source of information and they have a section about travelling abroad. But as far as I am aware, you will need to apply for a visa to gain entry into the USA even when the conviction is spent.

Oh sorry it's not the USA we wanted to go to. I meant to say that all sex offenders in the USA who are US citizens automatically get the green notice by the Department of Homeland Security wherever they travel to. This has led them to be turned back at many borders that I hope UK citizens on the SOR would not be turned back from. I hope we use green notices more sparingly here. I just wondered if anyone had any experience of it.

The official police guidelines say that green notices should only be issued if there is a high risk of harm. That would include any offender classified as high risk by them, or a medium/low risk person going to a high risk country, such as Thailand.

Green notices are very rare in this country. Low risk offenders going to low risk countries should not be subject to a green notice.

Thanks, Edel! That is good to know. Hoping there is still some enjoyment in life left after all the dust clears. ETIAS may really ruin everything but will have to wait and see.
