My father has just been given an SHPO for 10 years. I still live with him but will be hoping to move out in the near future. If in the furture I would like to adopt would this still be able to happen if

1. went no contact with him or

2. I still had contact with him but followed the rules on the SHPO

Any help would be appreciated

Hi,

I would think whoever does the adoption assessment would need to make a judgement about risk and your ability to be a protective parent - do you fully understand the potential risks and be able to protect the child, etc. It might be worth making anonymous enquiries with adoption agencies about this.

Take care

I was in the process of adoption with my OH when we got the knock. Our adoption social worker and the social worker for my daughter have both told me that this would not stop or affect me applying again in the future, obviously myself not with my OH. I'm sure it would still be considered though might not stop it.
