I work in a factory not with children but the staff have found out that my husband was arrested for iioc and the owners are threatening to fire me. Would this be allowed as it wasn't me that was arrested over it.

They absolutely should not be discriminating against you for a crime you did not commit. Please seek advice from your solicitor of call the Stop it Now helpline for details on the exact legislation but no, they cannot fire you.

They cannot dismiss you for your husbands offence. It is unfair dismissal and they can be taken to court. It is his offence not yours!

Thank you everyone. You've been really helpful and I will contact my lawyer to get it sorted.

You could also try unlock.org, they help those with convictions but I'm sure you won't be the first to have experienced this. As everyone else has said, you shouldn't be dismissed as a result on them finding out given you aren't working with children etc.

How awful that this is happening to someone who has done nothing wrong.Without work and the income that it provides, one could be on a slippery slope to who knows what.

I was in that position a few years ago over another matter, luckily sn excellent union and help from CAB resolved the matter positively.

To me it is wicked to deprive someone of work/career/income because non criminals work, not commit crime to make a living.
