Hi,

Apologies for the long post but I am at a loss & don't know where else to turn.

Long story short, my OH was arrested in 2019 FOR iioc & made to leave the family home. He served a 5 month prison sentence for this in 2020 followed by 5 months probation involvement. He also also given a 10 year shopo. Social services closed our case in 2020 as my OH was not living at the family home & a safe care agreement was put in place which allowed me to supervise contact.

Fast forward to 2021, we contacted social services to ask for a change to the safe care agreement to allow overnight stays at the family home. We were taken to conference but no CP registration. Social services were the only agency who wanted cp registration. We had to work with Social Services on a child in need plan. We both underwent assessment by Lucy Faithful which was very positive, OH assessed as low risk & myself a protecting factor. Following this a new safe care agreement was put in place allowing overnight stays at the family home with no restrictions on how many per week. Social Services closed the case.

Fast forward to now - OH was semtanced to prison in July 2023 for a fraud offence (committed in 2018) & is due to be releases in a few weeks. I made contact with Social Services to request he be allowed to return to the family home. This has not bee approved with Social Services saying he has been assessed by probation in prison in 2023 as medium risk. Oasys Report he scored low on all factors including online re-offending however they have said he is still medium risk. Social Services are now clinging onto this, discounting the previous Lucy Faithful assessment & holding a Strategy Meeting which could leave to conference again.

Initial offence was 7 years ago, no repffneding since & the only contact we've had with social services is when we have contacted them.

Where do we go from here? Will he ever be allowed home & us move on with our lives?

Has anyone been through anything similar that can off advice?

Hello.

Firstly, I appreciate how stressful and demanding this process is. My children spent time on children in need plans, which looked almost identical to yours in terms of allowances. Our case was also closed and thankfully, there has been no reason to reopen it. I might add though that my partner and I are now separated.

You can of course continue with your case (if you feel able) and look to prove again that overnight stays are managable in terms of safeguarding. It sounds like social services are going to put up fierce resistance so be prepared for an unfavourable outcome just in case. It's a great shame they are discounting the specialist assessment from the Foundation but I guess some social workers are less inclined than others to be helpful, for want of a better word.

In terms of if you'll ever be alllowed to move on...I do hope so. It can be very challenging though with a SHPO in place and the risk that social services may open new cases in the future. It's a bit of an unknown quantity.

I hope things turn out well and remember to look after your mental health. Xx
