My husband was arrested March and put on court bail the start of April. Since then it's been a waiting game. His lawyer said they have until March/April 2025 to complete their investigations. What happens if they don't finish by then?

I think what the solicitor means, is that they are only supposed to bail someone for a maximum of 12 months. There is no limit on how long they can take to investigate these things. If he has still not been charged after 12 months, then they can apply to the court for a further bail extension.

It used to be unusual for these to be granted, but because investigations take so long now, it is becoming more common.

As I understand it, bail can only be extended past 12 months in exceptional circumstances. Of course what they would class as exceptional circumstances is anyone's guess!
