My husband had been sent adult photos of over 21s, the usual adult photos. Then the person sent IIOC. My husband didn't ask for or go looking for them.
He was looking at adult photos because he felt he couldn't talk to me about lack of intimacy (menopause). I don't mind him looking but part of me feels betrayed and then to make matters worse, when he was arrested (not long after the photos had been sent) the police informed him had he gone straight to the police he would have still been arrested for possession. In other words he can't win

He might have been arrested, but he wouldn't necessarily be charged. It would depend on the circumstances.
If someone accidentally comes across a illegal image on the internet and they report it straight away, then the CPS and the police should take that into account. But they might still investigate to see if it really was accidental. One of the ways they will assess that, is to look at the persons search history.
Searches for porn, particularly legal porn involving teens (18+), could cast doubt over whether it was really an accident and might lead to the CPS bringing charges. The other issue would be how long did they take to report it. The longer they waited, the more likely it is that they would be charged with possession.

He told them a couple of hours after they were sent. He was in shock and it took another couple of hours for them to come to out. (Our police station closes as small town. Closest is half an hour away and hard to get to on public transport).
His lawyer is confident it won't go to court but I feel sick thinking about it all
