Does anyone know how I go about getting an advocate for meetings with social services? Thanks

Hi Thistle

have you tried Family Rights Group? They have advocates, though the LA has to pay for them I think. Unless you could demonstrate you had a specific need you may find it difficult to get the LA to pay for one. You could pay for a solicitor to attend. They are not allowed to speak but can whisper things to you to say/ask as well as give you a neutral opinion on how things went. It’s expensive though.

your kids should be offered an advocate if they are of the age to attend conference (usually around 12+) though most SWs don’t bother. I asked and asked doe one for one of my children but it never happened even though the LA had an advocacy service.

Have you tried the helpline, might be something they can advise about.

For an advocate I googled my towns name and advocacy service. There was one in my town. I phoned them and arranged an appointment within the week. X
